Recording
Everything about a recording is set in the menu bar panel before you start. Click the Sonvo icon to open it.
Modes
- Screen + Cam records your screen with a round camera bubble on top.
- Screen records your screen only.
- Cam records your camera on its own.
The camera bubble can be dragged anywhere on screen and resized. It's part of the video.
What to record
- Full screen records a whole display. With more than one display, pick which one in the panel.
- All screens records every display at once (up to three), with your camera on top. The video follows your mouse from screen to screen with a smooth glide and moves in closer when you click. You can change what shows when in the editor's Screens lane.
- Window records one window, chosen from the list of open windows.
- Area records a rectangle you draw. You can adjust it when you start.
Audio
Choose your microphone in the panel. Turn on Computer audio to mix in sound playing on your Mac, like a video or a demo with sound. It's off unless you turn it on.
While recording
A small control bar floats on screen. It's left out of the video. It has:
- Stop and share ends the recording and opens the link.
- The time recorded so far.
- Draw lets you draw on screen, in one of three colors. Press ⌥⇧D to start and stop, or Esc to stop.
- Restart throws the recording away and starts again with the same settings. It asks first.
- Pause stops recording until you resume. Paused time isn't in the video.
- Discard deletes the recording and its link. It asks first.
Highlight clicks draws a ring wherever you click. It's on unless you turn it off in the panel.
Watch it live
The link works from the first second. Anyone you send it to while you're still recording can follow along, and the video finishes on their screen when you stop.

Recording from the command line
The sonvo command can start and stop recordings, for scripts and AI agents. The app asks you once whether to allow it, and those recordings show "Started from the command line" on the control bar. See sonvo record.
